Year in Review

As we reflect on the past year at The Calming Leaf Foundation, we are proud of our achievements despite the challenges we faced. Our commitment to promoting environmental sustainability and community well-being has driven us to launch new platforms and campaigns, enhancing our ability to reach and engage with more people than ever before.

Digital Outreach and Campaigns

  • Data Series on Instagram: We launched a captivating series that shares insightful data on environmental and community health issues. This campaign has successfully engaged our followers and sparked important conversations about sustainability and personal action.

  • Expanding Our Social Media Presence: Recognizing the power of digital connectivity, we established our presence on LinkedIn and Facebook. These platforms have allowed us to reach a broader audience, engage with the community more effectively, and promote our initiatives to a wider network.

Community Engagement and Support

  • Despite a reduction in dedicated time due to unforeseen personal circumstances, our foundation has maintained strong, supportive relationships within the community. The trust and cooperation we have fostered over the years have been our greatest asset in continuing our mission under restricted conditions.

Academic Contributions

  • Research on Community Fridges: A major highlight was the completion and publication of our first research paper, which explored the impact and potential expansion of community fridge networks in Baltimore. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on food security and community-based sustainability practices, positioning us as thought leaders in the field.

Financial Challenges

  • The year also brought financial challenges, with a noticeable downturn in personal donations and unsuccessful grant applications, reflecting the broader economic hardships faced by many. Despite these financial hurdles, our resolve to drive positive change remains unshaken.

Looking Ahead

  • Community Fridge Initiative: With commitments from three local restaurants, we are set to launch our first community fridge. This initiative is designed to address food insecurity and promote communal sharing and support.

  • Partnerships and Programs: We are actively working on establishing a partnership with a local university to bolster our educational outreach and research capabilities. We also plan to revive and expand our in-school farming and growing programs, fostering a connection with nature and sustainable practices among students.

The year 2023 has been a testament to our resilience and dedication. As we move forward, we are energized by the new opportunities and the continued support of our community. Together, we are making strides towards a more sustainable and connected Baltimore.
